Street Department Maintenance Worker Part-Time The City of Elroy (pop. ~1,356) is accepting applications for the position of part-time Street Laborer. The successful candidate will assist in the operation and maintenance of Elroy streets, parks, the cemetery, and the brush dump by monitoring conditions; mowing and trimming various areas around the City of Elroy; assisting with plowing operations and shoveling snow; performing routine maintenance and inspections as instructed by the Operator in Charge; tracking inventory and maintaining stock; assisting in the maintenance of land and buildings; operating chain saws and various other equipment used in daily operations, such as pole saws; and assisting in the construction and maintenance of existing and new streets and alleys. Candidates must possess high mechanical aptitude and maintenance skills in the working of pumps, electric motors, and combustion engines in order to operate and maintain heavy equipment.

 

Maintaining good public relations and customer service with the public and other employees and departments is a must. The candidate for this position must have a good driving record. An excellent attendance record is needed, as well as good health and physical condition, and the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED.

 

Salary will be $17.00–$19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Applicants’ schedule must be flexible and may include nights, weekends, and holidays—depending on department needs, especially during snowstorms or other weather-related events.
